Role Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, commercially minded Fundamental Equity Analyst to join a dynamic and growing team within Capula. The role will sit within a global, sector-agnostic, equity-focused strategy, supporting discretionary idea generation, thematic analysis, and trade construction. This is a rare opportunity to join a lean, high-impact team at a formative stage in its lifecycle, with the infrastructure and backing of a top-tier platform.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in investment banking or a comparable buy-side role, with exposure to event-driven strategies seen as a strong advantage. They will possess exceptional analytical, valuation, and financial modelling skills, and demonstrate intellectual curiosity, proactivity, and strong attention to detail. A genuine interest in public equities, macro themes, and fundamental investing is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support global, cross-sector equity research: Contribute to the generation of differentiated, high-conviction long and short investment ideas across a global, sector-agnostic universe. This includes synthesising macroeconomic themes, sector trends, and company-level insights to help shape the team's portfolio construction.
- Conduct detailed company-level fundamental analysis: Perform in-depth financial statement analysis and build robust, bottom-up earnings models. Analyse key drivers of revenue, margins, cash flows, and capital allocation to assess valuation and business quality. Benchmark company performance against peers to identify dislocations and mispricings.
- Monitor markets, sectors, and macro developments: Stay current on key market-moving news, economic releases, and geopolitical developments. Track relevant sector indicators and regulatory changes, providing timely updates to inform positioning and portfolio risk management.
- Partner with the Portfolio Manager on thematic and event-driven research: Collaborate closely with the PM to identify and evaluate investment themes, event-driven catalysts (e.g., M&A, spinoffs, earnings surprises), and long-term value opportunities. Support the development of strategic trade frameworks around these insights.
- Develop and articulate clear investment theses: Present well-supported trade ideas that highlight the thesis, valuation support, key catalysts, and downside risks. Communicate views clearly and concisely, both in written memos and during investment discussions, to support effective decision-making.
- Build and maintain screening tools and analytical frameworks: Assist in the creation of scalable tools and screens to identify opportunities across sectors and geographies. Coding proficiency in Python (or similar) is highly desirable to support automation and data-driven analysis.
- Contribute to trade execution and performance monitoring: Participate in the pre- and post-trade process, supporting the implementation of ideas, tracking performance versus thesis, and refining models or assumptions as new information emerges. Maintain high standards of documentation and analytical rigor.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in investment banking or a comparable buy-side role, ideally with exposure to event-driven strategies. A strong foundation in fundamental equity research, valuation methodologies, and financial statement analysis is essential. The candidate should be proficient in building and maintaining detailed financial models, conducting scenario and sensitivity analysis, and translating complex data into actionable investment insights.
We're looking for someone who is intellectually curious, proactive, and commercially aware, with the ability to think independently and contribute meaningfully to investment discussions. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are important, as is the ability to synthesise macroeconomic and company-specific information into coherent, high-conviction trade ideas. A genuine interest in public equities, global markets, and fundamental investing is key, as is a desire to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment where ownership and accountability are valued.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher, preferably in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Maths, Engineering (or similar)
- 2-5 years' relevant experience (e.g., equity research, investment banking, or a similar role at a buy-side fund)
- A strong academic background, ideally in economics, finance, or a STEM discipline
- Advanced financial modelling skills and deep familiarity with valuation methods
- Comfortable working in a high-autonomy, high-accountability environment
- Strong communication skills — clear, concise, and commercially aware
- Ability to synthesise large amounts of data into structured and actionable insights
- Experience in M&A or ECM, or a similar buy-side Equity Analyst role is a plus
- Programming proficiency (Python, SQL, or similar) is highly advantageous
- Hands-on, highly curious, and driven individual — someone who can think commercially and frame ideas around catalysts
