Job description

Job Description: Reliability Engineer at MAFI

The MAFI Mission: Where Faith Meets Innovation

Since 1945, MAFI has been delivering help, hope, and healing to isolated communities, bridging the gap between despair and renewal. With a fleet of 116 aircraft, we connect the world’s most remote regions with medical care, disaster relief, education, and the message of Christ. Behind every flight is a strong engineering team—and that’s where you come in.

Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It

You will lead the creation and implementation of a unified reliability engineering framework across MAF to improve aircraft availability, maintenance efficiency, and fleet safety. Your responsibilities include identifying and managing data quality, analyzing failure trends, and driving root cause investigations. You will work closely with others to influence fleet standards and maintenance programs, streamline reporting, and guide key personnel—helping to turn data into smarter technical decisions. Additionally, you will monitor and report on fleet-wide performance to meet regulatory standards, with occasional international travel (up to 2 weeks per year) to support MAF’s mission.

Location: Ashford - UK, or Cairns - Australia, with consideration for other locations.

Salary: Salary dependent on experience and location.

  • Note: Applicants must have the current, legal right to work in England or Australia. Acceptance of and adherence to MAF’s purpose, vision, and values is an essential condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a reliability engineering framework to enhance aircraft availability, maintenance efficiency, airworthiness, and fleet safety.
  • Identify data sources, define and enforce data quality standards, and ensure consistent data collection and reporting.
  • Analyze reliability trends, detect failures, and conduct root cause investigations to recommend effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to automate data extraction and reporting processes.
  • Train and support Continuing Airworthiness teams to interpret data insights.
  • Evaluate recurring failures, perform risk analyses, and identify systemic issues affecting operations.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve maintenance practices and fleet utilization.
  • Prepare and present reliability reports meeting internal and regulatory standards, highlighting technical flight interruptions and failure trends.
  • Participate in the spiritual life of MAF through prayer, biblical reflection, and embodying MAF’s evangelical Christian values.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Diploma or higher education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Degree, license, or equivalent experience.
  • High competency in Mathematics.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation software (e.g., MS Excel, Power BI).

Desirable

  • Training in Reliability or Failure Mode analysis.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the aviation industry.
  • Knowledge of asset management.
