Job summary

Astute People is seeking an EC&I Technician to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station in Walsall. The role covers pre-planned and reactive maintenance on electrical, controls and instrumentation assets, with fault finding on motors, drives, switchgear and high/low voltage plant.

You will calibrate instrumentation, contribute to continuous improvement, supervise contractors, and maintain CMMS records while supporting outage planning and spares management.

Qualifications

• Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / CI apprenticeship.
• A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline
• COMPEX would be advantageous
• 17th / 18th edition

Responsibilities

• Supervising 3rd party contractors
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
• Assisting in plant developments and projects
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
• To ensure the availability of plant spares

Job description

Astute's Power Team are looking for an EC&I Technician to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Walsall.

The facility, which is currently under construction, will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 436,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate over 49 megawatts of low carbon energy.

Responsibilities and duties:

As the EC&I Technician, you will be responsible for:

• Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station
• Fault finding/maintaining mostly electrical system; motors, drives, single phase & three phase equipment, switchgear, high/low voltage plant etc. and Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow) and control systems
• Calibrating instrumentation
• Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
• Supervising 3rd party contractors
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
• Assisting in plant developments and projects

Professional qualifications

• Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / CI apprenticeship in a heavy process industry
• A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline
• COMPEX would be advantageous
• 17th / 18th edition

Personal skills

• At least 4 years of hands-on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature etc) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC)
• Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
• Experience with High-Voltage equipment such as transformers / switchgear will be advantageous.
