Job summary

Astute People are seeking an EC&I Technician to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station in Walsall. The role covers pre-planned and reactive maintenance of electrical, controls and instrumentation assets on site.

The successful candidate will work with high/low voltage plant, motors, switchgear, SCADA/DCS/PLC systems and contribute to plant developments and outages. 4+ years' hands-on maintenance experience preferred; COMPEX and 17th/18th edition advantageous.

Qualifications

• Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry
• A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline
• COMPEX would be advantageous
• 17th / 18th edition

Responsibilities

• Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station
• Fault finding/maintaining electrical systems; motors, drives, switchgear, high/low voltage plant and instrumentation
• Calibrating instrumentation
• Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
• Supervising 3rd party contractors
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
• Assisting in plant developments and projects
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records on CMMS
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination
• Ensure availability of plant spares

Job description

Astute's Power Team are looking for an EC&I (Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation) Technician to join a brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Walsall. The facility, which is currently under construction, will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 436,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate over 49 megawatts of low carbon energy. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing pre-planned and reactive maintenance of all EC&I assets on site. Responsibilities and duties

• Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station
• Fault finding/maintaining mostly electrical system; motors, drives, single phase & three phase equipment, switchgear, high/low voltage plant etc. and Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow) and control systems
• Calibrating instrumentation
• Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
• Supervising 3rd party contractors
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
• Assisting in plant developments and projects
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
• To ensure the availability of plant spares

Professional qualifications

• Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry
• A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline

• 17th / 18th edition

Personal skills

• At least 4 years of hands-on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature etc) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC)
• Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
• Experience with High-Voltage equipment such as transformers / switchgear will be advantageous.
