Job summary

Rolls-Royce Submarines is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the EC&I Verification & Validation team. You will deliver V&V processes, tools and test artefacts to verify high-integrity electrical/electronic systems across the submarine platform, ensuring the reactor control system performs to specification.

The role involves developing test rigs, hardware-in-the-loop testing, requirements review, and working with commissioning teams to deploy equipment on boats.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience in Electronic, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, Software Engineering or Physics.
• Extensive Verification & Validation experience including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Strong technical understanding of high-integrity electrical and electronic systems.
• Advanced Excel skills with experience analysing and interpreting test data.
• Experience with Python, VBA or MATLAB/Simulink would be advantageous.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer to join our growing EC&I Verification & Validation (V&V) team. The EC&I V&V team is responsible for delivering verification of the next-generation Rolls-Royce nuclear reactor control system. This includes the verification of individual control units, subsystem and system-level integration, and alignment with the wider submarine platform. You will play an integral role in ensuring the high-integrity reactor control system performs to specification and delivers sustainable performance in support of the Royal Navy for decades to come., You will be responsible for delivering critical V&V processes, tools and test artefacts to verify the system, including:

• Generating V&V processes and tools for testing and analysis of test evidence.
• Taking ownership of the verification of one or more EC&I products.
• Reviewing requirements and allocating appropriate verification methods.
• Developing algorithm emulators, test procedures and test scripts.
• Designing, specifying, deploying, operating and maintaining bespoke test rigs and sensor simulators.
• Conducting testing of EC&I equipment and compiling verification evidence and reports.

• Degree qualified in Electronic, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, Software Engineering, Physics or a related discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Extensive Verification & Validation experience, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Strong technical understanding of high-integrity electrical and electronic systems.
• Good knowledge of the product design lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, verification and validation, safety and final acceptance.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with experience analysing and interpreting test data.
