Job summary

TÜV Rheinland Group is seeking an EC&I Department Head to lead engineering design activities in the UK, delivering projects within budget and schedule. The role requires extensive EC&I experience in heavy industries, chartered status, and strong standards knowledge.

You will coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams, supporting procurement and 3D model development while ensuring safety and quality across projects.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ EC&I experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, or Heavy Engineering.
  • Chartered engineer status or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE/ANSI and hazardous area (ATEX) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver EC&I design within budget and schedule.
  • Prepare scopes, estimates, calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Act as EC&I design authority and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Produce and review SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, and layout drawings.
  • Perform electrical design calculations (earthing, cable sizing, short circuit, load flow, battery sizing, lighting, voltage drop).
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support procurement, technical reviews, and 3D model development.
  • Participate in safety, risk, and constructability reviews.
  • Manage project priorities, scope changes, and quality requirements.

We are currently recruiting for a EC&I Department Head on behalf of our sister company TUV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS). The suitable person must be a graduate Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer, chartered with a minimum of 10 years experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver EC&I engineering design within budget and schedule.

Key Requirements
  • 10+ years’ EC&I experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, or Heavy Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE/ANSI and hazardous area (ATEX) standards.
  • Experience with HV/LV distribution, MCCs, switchgear, relay coordination, and power system studies.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety (preferred).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, AVEVA E3D, DIALux/CG Lux, and MS Office.
  • Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Permanent full-time role.
