Job description

We are predominantly looking for a recovery position, but rotation throughout the Theatre Department will be supported.

The postholder will provide and be responsible for the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of peri-operative care programmes. Clinically, he/she may be required to work as a scrubbed surgical assistant, circulating assistant, anaesthetic assistant, or recovery room practitioner. He/she may also take responsibility for the work of a team of theatre staff for a span of duty or operating list.

Multi-skilling will be encouraged, and those wishing to broaden their range of clinical skills will be supported.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure high standards of practice through example and teaching.
  2. Assist and supervise junior theatre staff.
  3. Demonstrate a speciality knowledge within a defined clinical area.
  4. Participate in patient-focused care.
  5. Maintain and improve personal knowledge of current trends and developments within operating theatre practice.
  6. Assist in liaison and communication with hospital departments and medical staff.
  7. Maintain accurate records of care.
  8. Ensure all Health & Safety measures are followed according to local policies.
  9. Report all incidents, accidents, and complaints to Theatre Manager or acting deputy.
  10. Participate in the induction of new staff to the unit.
  11. Participate in the teaching and assessment of all learners according to departmental and course requirements.
  12. Participate in the effective management of human and material resources.
  13. Act up or deputise as deemed necessary by senior staff.
  14. Undertake other duties within the scope of the post as agreed with senior staff or departmental manager.
  15. Ensure correct labelling and dispatching of pathology specimens from theatre to other sites.
  16. Understand and adhere to Trust policies relating to the security and control of drugs.
