Overview:
Buckingham Futures is recruiting an enthusiastic and confident Environmental Enforcement Officer to support our client in tackling a range of environmental offences. This frontline role is critical in promoting clean, safe communities through public engagement, enforcement actions, and collaborative working with internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Patrol assigned areas to identify environmental offences, such as littering, fly-tipping, and dog fouling.
Issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) using handheld terminals or manual systems, in line with enforcement protocols.
Educate and advise members of the public and businesses on environmental responsibilities and legal obligations.
Maintain detailed records of enforcement activity, including statements, photographic evidence, and FPN logs.
Attend and provide evidence in court when legal proceedings are necessary.
Liaise with police, council departments, and external partners to report wider community safety concerns.
Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, and related statutory guidance.
Ensure compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), RIPA 2000, and data protection regulations.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Prior experience in enforcement, regulatory functions, or a similar public-facing compliance role.
Ability to defuse confrontational situations with tact, professionalism, and authority.
Strong observational and report-writing skills.
Experience using handheld technology and Microsoft Office systems for data entry and reporting.
Confident presenting evidence and contributing to legal proceedings.
Strong partnership working and communication skills.
