Job Description

We are currently seeking a Craftsperson (Calibration) to join our Infrastructure & Laboratory Services within the Corporate group.

This role is a full-time, permanent position based onsite in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, UK. Please note, this role is UK-only and cannot be performed overseas.

Who are we?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhances and improves health through effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, supported by science and research.

Infrastructure and Laboratory Services (ILS), part of the Corporate Group, provides engineering and specialist staff to ensure a safe working environment for our staff and scientific facilities. We support the agency with maintenance programs, investments in scientific facilities, and support processes to deliver efficiencies, savings, and value for money. Our division comprises three departments:

  1. Facilities & Laboratory Services – daily site, laboratory, and facility support, including security, catering, waste management, and liaison for the 10th Floor.
  2. Specialist Engineering – management of engineering and infrastructure systems supporting complex buildings, plant, and equipment, adhering to health and safety standards, with 24/7 alarm response.
  3. Specialist Project & Programme Management – management of the Capital programme, including building alterations, lab refurbishments, and installation and commissioning of new equipment and digital IT systems.
What’s the role?

Post responsibilities include providing calibration services to site cold storage equipment, following a defined process, and supporting controls maintenance to ensure compliance with legal and safety standards. The role involves calibration of building management system sensors, reporting, and potentially providing support for controls issues, especially in CL 3 & 4 Laboratories and CBRM, to maintain safe working practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calibrate building management system cold storage temperature sensors to meet quality assurance standards.
  • Coordinate and perform planned preventative maintenance for control systems and equipment, supervising contractors as needed.
  • Investigate faults and respond to breakdowns, proposing solutions to maintain safe operations.
  • Participate in out-of-hours cover on a rota basis, making informed decisions to ensure safety, with an uplift in basic pay.
  • Support the replacement and upgrade of controls and engineering systems to ensure their efficacy.
Who are we looking for?

Successful candidates will have:

  • Completion of a registered engineering apprenticeship with NVQ Level 2 or BTEC in engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Good understanding of H&S regulations in maintenance or construction environments.
  • Practical experience with control systems and engineering equipment.
  • Ability to organize workload, manage priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high standards.
