Job Summary

Strategic Command is one of the four Military Commands operating in the UK and overseas, including locations in Cyprus, Gibraltar and South Atlantic. The purpose of the Safety Centre is to enable UKStratCom to deliver its outputs whilst protecting Health, Safety and the Environment.

The Strategic Command Safety Centre is primarily based at MOD Abbey Wood North in Bristol. The duty station for this post will be MOD Abbey Wood North. Flexible working arrangements have been established within UKStratCom, which support alternative working arrangements; however, the post is integral to the Safety Centre and the successful candidate will be required to attend the Bristol office on a regular basis.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week and is intended to be full-time and therefore part-time or job share can only be considered if full-time cover can be achieved.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the role of Business Support within the UKStratCom Safety Centre.

The post sits within the Business Management Team (BMT), working to the Business Manager and will be responsible for general business management related tasks, as well as more specific Audit coordination and Quality Management tasks. It is imperative that the candidate has high attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

This post is non-specialist, and applicants are not required to have a background in Safety as suitable HS&EP training will be provided if necessary. The Safety Centre (SCen) operates under an Agile way of working and informal training will be offered with the option of formal training if desired.

Person specification

The post holder will act as Business Support in the UKStratCom Safety Centre. Duties include:

  • Coordinating all audit and assurance activity across the Safety Centre, from sending notification letters to helping organise travel arrangements and maintaining a Second Party Assurance spreadsheet with precise detail.
  • Supporting the Safety Centre with quality management work, including document review and formatting Standing Orders/Standard Operating Procedures/Customer Supplier Agreements.
  • Coordinating the quarterly performance return process and risk process across the Safety Centre. Maintaining records and hastening late responses/queries.
  • Supporting with Information Management tasks, including Information Asset registers, Data Protection Impact Statements and SharePoint Management.
  • Supporting the delivery of Safety Centre communications.
  • Supporting the Business Manager with wider BMT tasks.

Travel within the UK and overseas may be required on occasion.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
