JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer - Conversational AI

SALARY: £81,999 - £91,110

LOCATION(S): London

HOURS: Full-time - 35 hours per week

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our London office.

The Intelligent Automation Platform is an Enabling Platform as part of CIO Enabling Services. As a member of the Conversational Experience & Analytics Lab, you'll play a vital role in our efforts to build a forward-thinking Chatbot as a Service platform. You'll collaborate on innovative solutions that incorporate Language Models & Generative AI within a well-established cloud-native ecosystem.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality software solutions that meet business needs

  • Work closely with colleagues from different areas to capture and analyse requirements and determine technical feasibility

  • Lead the development and implementation of complex software applications

  • Maintain code quality and follow coding standards

  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members

  • Lead with debugging and analysis of production incidents

  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, encouraging a culture of learning and continuous improvement

What you'll need

  • Extensive understanding of software development principles with experience of building highly observable and scalable solutions

  • Proficiency in Node.js, React & Next.js - experience of Python is an additional advantage!

  • Hands-on experience of either Azure or GCP - and experience of cloud-native architecture & containerisation (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, Helm)

  • Familiarity with Agile principles & practices including scrum methodology and associated tools such as Jira

  • Detailed understanding of software testing methodologies and practices

  • Effective collaboration and relationship-building capabilities

  • An awareness and understanding of emerging trends and technologies such as Generative AI, Large Language models & Agentic Architecture/ AI Agents.

  • An understanding of networking - preferably including a mixture of public cloud & on-premise infrastructure
