Schmidt Industrial Services is an ~80 year old company with a long reputation of quality and customer service. Our metal fabrication company specializes in the creation of ASME pressure vessels for a broad range of industries. We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent & Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a technical background and experience in quoting, estimating, understanding of the metal fabrication process, and ASME pressure vessel standards.
Responsibilities:
· Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
· Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
· Preparing material and cost estimates for the product or service in a timely manner.
· Creating labor estimates for any project.
· Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria.
· Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors.
· Managing bids from vendors and contractors.
· Using bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis such as the labor, material, production times, etc.
· Gather and negotiate quotes by subcontractors and vendors.
· Presenting prepared estimates to management.
· Compiling and recording actual costs.
· Collaborate with the General Manager, verify capabilities as required.
· Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation(estimate).
· Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times.
Financial Management:
· Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improve profitability.
· Monitor the production hours executed against the estimated hours assigned for each project, to ensure projects are profitable.
Client Relations:
· Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, and vendors, while understanding their needs and expectations.
· Stay apprised of industry trends and innovations that are applicable to the company to support continuous improvement.
Requirements:
Job Qualifications:
· Proven experience as an estimator, or similar position, within the manufacturing industry, preferably in pressure vessel manufacturing or related sectors.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
· In-depth knowledge of industry regulations, quality standards, ASME codes, and safety protocols.
· Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and project management principles.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists.
· Competency in fact-based problem solving and analysis.
· BSc in engineering, construction science, or relevant discipline .
Technical requirements:
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
· Skilled use of precision measuring tools.
· General knowledge of material types/grades and their machinability.
· Proficient in relevant estimating.
· Basic computer knowledge including Word, Excel, and ERP software navigation.
