Working across the Eating Disorder Services, the role of the Eating Disorders Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner will support the development and ongoing delivery CNWL’s Peer Support and Lived Experience Practice provision within the Eating Disorder Services.
Across the service line, the post holder will work to ensure that Peer Support Worker (PSW) roles are created and undertaken in line with our trust wide policies and practices, and that PSWs and Senior PSWs are suitably supported within their work and that the Recovery agenda is maintained across sites. The postholder may also support PSWs, if needed, in working with a number of service users currently accessing CNWL Eating Disorder Services, which could include 1-1 lived experience specialist support or run a peer support group to complement the work of the service.
In addition, the postholder will contribute as a leading stakeholder within the Recovery and Wellbeing College spokes and will be responsible for the occasional delivery of Recovery and Wellbeing College courses.
Main duties of the job
- Supervision requirements – Following the probation period, the Eating Disorders Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner will have monthly 1-1 supervision their line manager in the Central Lived Experience and Peer Workforce Team and monthly 1-1 supervision with their local clinical contact.
- To meet regularly with Senior Peer Support Worker(s) and Parent/Carer Peer Support Worker(s) for individual peer supervision (professional supervision and line management will be held by a local clinical professional).
- Raise the profile of peer support both within CNWL, and externally, through co-delivery of presentations, workshops, and participation in Trust wide peer related projects and audits.
- Support Senior Peer Support Workers and Peer Support Workers and/or cover specialist lived experience work in 1-1 sessions or group settings when needed.
- Use lived experience perspective and team leadership skills to inform contributions to senior management level discussions regarding care quality, service delivery, and development.
- To act as an ambassador for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations.
- Work at all times to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity as well as individual human rights.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Be committed to professional development through independent learning, keeping up to date with latest research and building connections with local and national peer networks.
- Promote development of best practices in peer support and Lived Experience Practice across the service through active participation in internal and external training and development programmes.
- Supervision requirements – Following the probation period, the Eating Disorders Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner will have monthly 1-1 supervision their line manager in the Central Lived Experience and Peer Workforce Team and monthly 1-1 supervision with their local clinical contact. Prior to this, and in any other periods where additional support is needed, the frequency of supervisions can be reasonably adjusted.
- In addition to active participation in supervision, the Eating Disorders Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner will participate and actively contribute to mandatory training and team meetings, and organisational events as required.
- Promote understanding of the principles and practice of peer and lived experience practitioner roles across CNWL eating disorders service, particularly at the senior management and organisational level.
- To meet regularly with Senior Peer Support Worker(s) and Parent/Carer Peer Support Worker(s) for individual peer supervision (professional supervision and line management will be held by a local clinical professional).
- Contribute to the Eating Disorder Services Senior Management Team meetings, site-based management meetings and locality wide meetings regarding peer working and lived experience practitioner roles and perspectives.
- Contribute as a leading stakeholder to the local Recovery and Wellbeing College spoke. This will include attending and organising meetings to report on the feedback and delivery of the Recovery and Wellbeing College snapshots across sites and regular liaison with the central Recovery and Wellbeing College team.
- Contribute to service development meetings across Eating Disorder Services.
- Coordinate and deliver Team Preparation sessions for teams in the process of recruiting a new Peer Support Worker or Lived Experience Practitioner.
- Scope out and support teams to consider new peer worker roles within their skill mix, and co-run information sessions promoting the roles to external applicants, contribute to shortlisting, interviews or assessment centres and eventual induction of new staff.
- Ensure that all Peer Support Workers and Lived Experience Practitioners have a clear, up to date and expert offering to those they work with in regards to community resources to support recovery and social inclusion.
- Propose policy or service changes for their own work area or beyond their own work area that contributes to cultures across the eating disorder services that are therapeutic, productive, accessible, inclusive, flexible and responsive to service user’s needs.
- Promote positive understanding, awareness and attitudes towards eating disorders and service-users using an intersectional person-centred approach as part of day-to-day duties.

Essential criteria
- Lived experience recovery from an Eating disorder
- Experience of Peer Support working
- Experience of delivering mentoring and/or supervision/appraisal
- Ability to demonstrate first person experiential knowledge of recovery at an expert
- Basic IT skills I.e. word, email
- Understanding of the importance of equality and diversity
- Experience of public speaking
