Job summary

Remedy Education is seeking a creative and dedicated Art Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in East London. This role supports pupils with SEMH needs, helping them access lessons and progress with confidence.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to create a calm, positive learning environment and to encourage creativity and independence in pupils.

Qualifications

• Previous SEMH experience is essential.
• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.
• Interest or background in Art or creative subjects.
• Enhanced DBS (Update Service) or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils during Art lessons, creative projects and practical activities.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils where required.
• Help pupils stay focused, engaged and emotionally regulated throughout lessons.
• Use positive, consistent and supportive behaviour strategies.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Prepare and organise Art materials, equipment and classroom resources.
• Support pupils who may display challenging or complex behaviours.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team.
• Encourage pupils to develop their creativity, confidence and independence.
