Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking an Early Years Practitioner to join Dalry Primary School & Nursery on a fixed-term contract until 29 January 2027. The role is part-time (15 hours per week across 39 weeks) with pattern Mondays and Tuesdays 08:00–16:00, including a 30-minute break.

Applicants must have the essential qualifications listed (HNC/SVQ7 level or equivalent) and be registered with SSSC as a Day Care Practitioner. PVG checks and potential overseas checks apply as required.

Qualifications

• Essential qualification: HNC Child Care and Education, SVQ Level 3, or Social Services SCQF Level 7.
• Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as Practitioner in Day Care of Children.
• PVG Scheme checks required; overseas criminal record check may be needed for time spent outside the UK.

Location: Dalry Primary School & Nursery

Salary: £30,188-£34,452 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 15 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Working Pattern: Monday and Tuesday 08:00am to 16:00pm (with a 30min break)

You must ensure that you have one of the following qualifications before you apply: HNC Child Care and Education, SVQ level 3 or Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7. Early Years Practitioners working in services registered with the Care Inspectorate are required to be registered, without conditions, with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as Practitioner in Day Care of Children, and maintain registration throughout the period of employment.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
