Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic Early Reading Support Assistant to join a Burnley school. You will support EYFS and KS1 pupils with reading and phonics, helping them build confidence and fluency.

The role is maternity cover, hours 8.30am–3.30pm, salary £14.25 - £15 per hour, starting 2 November 2026. You will work with teachers to deliver high-quality reading support and targeted interventions.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Understanding of early reading and phonics strategies.
• Familiarity with Read Write Inc., Little Wandle or similar.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient and supportive approach.

Responsibilities

• Support phonics and early reading sessions.
• Work with individuals and small groups to develop reading skills.
• Deliver targeted interventions in reading and phonics.
• Promote a love of reading and positive reading habits.
• Support assessment and monitoring of pupils' progress.
• Prepare reading resources and learning materials.
• Work closely with class teachers and leaders to ensure effective support for all learners.
• Foster a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
