Job description

Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic specialty doctors in anaesthesia to work at the Trust's Musgrove Park Hospital site, joining a department of 50 consultants, 10 SAS doctors, and a large cohort of trainees in Anaesthesia, ICM and ACCS.

The role is offered full-time based on 12 PAs per week (48 hours per week on average). Applications are welcomed from candidates wishing to work less than full time.

The ideal candidate will have 4 years of broad experience across the specialty including obstetrics and intensive care. Candidates must have completed minimum Core/Stage 1 Anaesthesia training, or equivalent, though we encourage and support candidates wishing to progress their careers further.

This post may suit individuals who wish to settle long-term in one location, or someone who seeks to gain more experience before applying for a specialty National Training Number.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to work independently though consultant support is always available. The elective clinical work may be adjusted to suit your skills and experience across the typical range of specialties in a major district general hospital, but also specialist services such as vascular, bariatrics and spines.

The role will include:

  • Working as an independent anaesthetist, with consultant support, in theatres, day surgery, labour ward, and intensive care.
  • Undertaking pre-operative assessment, intraoperative and post-operative anaesthetic care of patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery.
  • Attending cardiac arrests/trauma calls and supporting critically ill patients on the ward, in the Emergency Department, and the Cath Lab, out of hours when required to support the primary responder.
  • Attending teaching sessions and departmental meetings.
  • Participating in QI / audit, risk management, clinical governance, and teaching.
  • Keeping up to date with mandatory training and ensure familiarity and compliance with relevant Trust policies and procedures (available on the Trust intranet).
