Royal London is seeking a Senior Data Modeller to join the Core Data Engineering function. This role is key to the development of the Royal London Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), a data lakehouse built using Azure Databricks.

The platform supports digital use cases, effective decision-making through feature-engineered data products, self-service analytics, and downstream data feeds.

This role will be part of a small team responsible for the ongoing maintenance, optimization, and extension of the data models which will drive the EDP design and development.

About the Role
  1. Data Modelling:
  • Maintaining data models at conceptual, logical, and physical levels.
  • Understanding and clarifying business requirements and working with Business Analysts and Data Engineers to design and implement changes to data structures.
  • Helping establish and improve modelling processes and standards within the Data Modelling team.
  • Data Mapping: Documenting the mapping and transformation logic for source system data into conformed and denormalised structures.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensuring data modelling aligns with enterprise, business, and technology strategies.
  • Coherence and Flexibility: Maintaining a coherent, extensible data model that aligns with operating models, change budgets, and TCO.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with Principal Data Engineer and Data Architects to ensure alignment with data architecture.
  • Advocacy: Collaborating with Product Owners to promote the EDP as a democratizing tool for data insight.
  • About You
    • Expertise in data modelling and enterprise data architecture, with knowledge of different modelling levels and complex source-to-target mappings.
    • Proven experience in data modelling for complex projects, familiar with data warehousing concepts (Kimball, Inmon, star schemas, OLAP, data lakes).
    • Skilled in data modelling tools (preferably Idera ER/Studio Data Architect) and knowledgeable about Azure cloud data services (Azure Data Factory, Databricks).
    • Proficient in ETL concepts, including data cleansing, CDC, integration, mapping, extraction, transformation, and loading.
    • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with experience in agile practices, and understanding of financial services regulations.
