Description Overview

This position is responsible for leading the CSCI R&D team, partnering with the global R&D team, to develop new innovative consumer & medical device products that will provide Perrigo Oral Care with a competitive advantage.
The position will sit on the global R&D leadership team (RDLT), will be the most senior R&D leader in Europe, and will manage the CSCI product development team.

Scope of the Role
  • With a consultative approach, collaborate with internal and external business partners to ideate innovative new products and claims to grow Perrigo Oral Care product offerings at current and new retail customers.
  • Define product development strategy for new product innovation.
  • Identify external partnerships and/or collaborate with global R&D teams to develop and commercialize innovative new device and formulation products within the oral care segment.
  • Manage external open innovation partners and associated development programs.
  • Execute claims substantiation strategy for new product innovation.
  • Identify external testing and/or collaborate with global R&D teams to develop and test product claims.
  • Support customer technical requests including, but not limited to, product education, product specifications, consumer complaint handling, quality investigations, and production audits.
  • Collaborate with key internal (e.g. Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, and Sales) and external (e.g. OHF, Safety Assessor) stakeholders to manage NPD and in-market support of current products.
  • Support global R&D team by communicating customer requirements, market trends, and competitive product intelligence.
  • Manage and provide technical lead expertise to new product development teams for the development of new products or processes.
  • This includes functioning as project lead and/or technical; generating budgets and timelines; developing cost estimates for products or processes; communicating project status throughout the organization; and identifying and managing outside technical expertise utilized in projects.
  • Direct supervision responsibility for CSCI product development team in support of the Strategic Plan.
  • Duties include goals & objectives setting, providing on-going feedback and conducting year-end performance review.
  • Identify suppliers with key technologies required in manufacturing new products, interface with suppliers and take a lead role in process development, prototyping, scale-up, process validation and transfer efforts.
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMs) to solve problems and improve processes/products; cooperate proactively to drive costs out of supplier/CM processes and products; understanding and documenting supplier/CM processes.
  • Identify new product opportunities and/or technologies, assess new technologies, businesses and products to determine fit with existing business and marketing strategy; identify, evaluate and develop suppliers and contract manufacturers for process development and commercialization of new products; and research and assess intellectual property and regulatory issues related to new products with the assistance of counsel.
  • Provide scientifically-based decisions using engineering and formulations knowledge to Operations, and other departments in support of existing or new products, processes or process improvements; cost-reduction efforts; or guidance on the specification and purchase of capital equipment.
Experience Required
  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10-14 (B.S.), 8-11 (M.S.), 5-8 (Ph.D.) years of experience in formulation and/or engineering of consumer, medical device, or pharmaceutical products
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing development projects
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in managing direct reports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patents, retailer requirements, quality procedures, and European regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outside contractors and suppliers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the company
