We have a fantastic opportunity for a UK Financial Controller to join our Group Finance team here at Domestic & General. Reporting into the Group Head of Finance, this role will be responsible for the UK Financial Accounting team with specific responsibilities outlined below:

Key Responsibilities
People
- Responsible for the UK Financial Accounting team, driving engagement and productivity.
- Ensuring appropriate management of team performance, including coaching and development of individuals.
- Building and maintaining a high-quality finance team.
Financial reporting
- Ownership of the monthly reporting process and controls, ensuring the production of timely and accurate financial information under both UK GAAP and IFRS (including IFRS 17).
- Responsible for the accurate input of data into the IFRS 17 data warehouse and oversight of certain IFRS 17 calculations for group reporting purposes.
- Full ownership of the accuracy and completeness of the UK balance sheet.
- Preparation of month-end reporting packs to present directly to the Group CFO, including variance analysis, key accounting judgments, and risk/opportunity assessment.
- Preparation of the UK legal entity financial statements (UK GAAP).
- Leading responses to technical accounting issues impacting UK Finance, considering wider impacts such as tax and solvency, and ensuring issues are resolved and documented efficiently.
- Ensuring compliance of the UK segment with all Group policies and relevant accounting standards.
- Review and approval of UK balance sheet budget models, including cash forecast during budgeting and re-forecasting.
Financial reporting control framework
- Implementing and managing the Financial Risk Control Framework in the UK, ensuring controls are completed and documented to a high standard.
- Managing the UK external audit relationship, ensuring an efficient process and timely issue resolution.
- Building strong cross-functional relationships to provide finance input on projects, contracts, and product launches.
Other
- Act as a delegate for the Group Head of Finance when required.
- Supporting ad hoc finance projects, including Solvency II, Corporation Tax, VAT, and IPT returns.
Skills and Experience Required
- Engaging leader capable of delivering clear objectives.
- Fully qualified ACCA.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Effective communicator at all levels, including with Group Financial Controller and external advisors.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Self-starter, confident, and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented and process-driven.
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, IFRS, UK GAAP, and related issues such as tax and controls.
- Experience with IFRS 17 is preferable but not essential.
