Job summary

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) or Physiotherapist looking to advance your career and develop your operational management and leadership skills?

We are seeking a Lead Therapist to join our Spinal Injuries Team, comprising occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapy support workers, and an activities coordinator. Based at the Osborn building in Northern General Hospital, the team provides services to patients with spinal cord injuries across acute, rehabilitation, readmission, and outpatient settings.

The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre is a 60-bed, supra-regional facility accepting patients from much of eastern England, including 6 ventilator-dependent beds.

The Spinal Injuries Therapy Department features a physiotherapy gym, hydrotherapy pool, sports hall, main OT treatment area, heavy workshop/project room, therapy kitchen, assessment bedroom, assessment bathroom, computer room, and assessment flat.

Our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely in patient assessment and management. The Centre maintains links with other Spinal Injuries Centres nationwide, ensuring high-quality service provision.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide operational management and leadership for inpatient and outpatient services.
  2. Support staff health, wellbeing, education, and professional development.
  3. Maintain a positive, supportive team culture through excellent communication and organizational skills.
  4. Carry a small clinical caseload as required, with training available in spinal injuries if needed.
  5. Work collaboratively with the Clinical Service Manager, Clinical Specialists, and fellow Lead Therapists to ensure equitable, resilient service delivery.

Qualifications (Essential)
  • BSc in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Current HPC Registration
  • Postgraduate Masters level module in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and skills through training and experience
Experience (Essential)
  • Extensive post-registration NHS experience as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist
  • Senior therapist experience in clinical management
  • In-depth inter-professional knowledge in an acute hospital setting
  • Line management experience, including appraisal and supervision
  • Experience in clinical and corporate governance, including risk management
Further training (Essential)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Current clinical knowledge and skills in the specialty
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices
