Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide advice to staff and students on health, safety, and regulatory compliance within laboratories.
  • Assist in developing Health and Safety policies for technical labs and workshops.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for practical, commercial, and short courses.
  • Support specialist techniques in laboratory/workshop environments for students.
  • Assess health and safety risks and identify control measures.
  • Promote health, safety, and compliance in a professional manner aligned with the school's and university's objectives.
  • Stay updated on health, safety, and regulatory developments, attending meetings and training.
  • Keep abreast of current legislation and collaborate with the university safety team.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures in laboratories and workshops.

Skills and experience needed

  • Practical experience working in a laboratory in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Experience in COSHH Risk Assessments and safety management.
  • Experience in training is desirable.
  • Customer service experience and strong IT skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of customer care and a positive attitude.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and motivation to learn.
  • Attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications required

  • Degree in STEM, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Must meet UKVI visa regulations; sponsorship not available.
  • Residency in the UK/EEA/EU for the last 3 years required.
