The role: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team at Rowden Technologies supporting one of our most important customers.

While you'll be working at our HQ in Bristol, you'll be working full-time with one of our customers as part of a hybrid team of contractors and military personnel for a government organisation. This key position requires a dynamic, customer-focused engineer capable of designing, developing, building, deploying, and supporting mission-critical services across a range of cloud infrastructure (focused on AWS). While you'll have support from the wider team, day-to-day you'll be working directly with our customers, and will need to be able to work independently.

This role offers hybrid working options but requires a minimum of 2 days per week at our Bristol office. Regular travel to the customer's site in the West Midlands will be expected (likely once a week), with travel costs included in the package.

Candidates must be willing to obtain UKNSV security clearance, with SC clearance being essential and DV clearance desirable. The candidate does not need to already have a clearance. More info: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels

Key Areas of Responsibility

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at Rowden, your expertise will be pivotal in building and architecting solutions that support both our operational needs and strategic objectives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Workload integration, deployment, documentation, monitoring, and patching to ensure service reliability, availability, and performance.
• Collaborating with development teams to incorporate DevOps methodologies into the software development lifecycle.
• Interfacing with our account manager on progress updates and upcoming customer needs.

Key skills, experience, and behaviors
We seek someone passionate about technology who actively invests in their skills. You should have:

• Public Cloud Expertise: Experience with multiple cloud platforms, especially AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation).
• Proven Customer Focus: Experience representing an organization to customers, ensuring their satisfaction.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform, Ansible, and programming languages like Python, Golang, or similar.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, container technologies (Docker, Podman), orchestration (Kubernetes), and version control systems (Git).
• Strong IT security practices, including application hardening and secure development lifecycle.

• Planning complex solution architectures and explaining them to stakeholders.
• Owning architecture design and delivery, including team management for secure environments.
• Providing documentation, architecture diagrams, governance, policies, and runbooks.
