The successful applicant will join an established team of 6 consultants (4.2 WTE) and 2 registrars in a friendly, dynamic, and forward-thinking department with an on-site laboratory.

The department seeks a full-time Consultant in Medical Microbiology or Medical Microbiology/ID, or a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Medical Microbiology. On-call duties are anticipated to be approximately 1:5-1:6 weekdays and weekends, with prospective cover and category A availability supplement.

Bury St Edmunds is a lovely, historic market town in East Anglia, offering various leisure and cultural activities. It has easy transport links to Cambridge, Norwich, the coast, London, Stansted and Norwich airports, and Harwich port for international travel.

The successful candidates will share responsibility for providing a comprehensive clinical microbiology service to the Trust, local GPs, and other contracted organizations. All consultants are expected to contribute to departmental activities, including but not limited to:

1. Interpretation and authorization of results
2. Ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings
3. Infection prevention and control advice
4. Maintaining a quality laboratory and clinical microbiology service and contributing to UKAS accreditation activities
5. Fulfilling a lead role on a rotational basis (by mutual agreement): Microbiology Clinical Lead/Laboratory Director, Infection Prevention Doctor, Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Lead
6. Teaching and leadership development of all staff grades and training as a Clinical/Educational Supervisor
7. On-call commitment (expected to be 1:5-1:6 weekdays and weekends, usually telephone cover including weekends). A Trust laptop will be provided for remote access. The on-call availability supplement is Category A (5%) for a 1:5-1:6 frequency, with an additional 1 PA paid for out-of-hours commitments, reviewed annually during job planning.
