Head of Health, Safety & Environment

Our client is a market leader in battery cell research and manufacturing, driving cutting-edge innovation in the energy sector. As they continue to scale their operations, they are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to join their leadership team.

This is a critical role with broad responsibility for setting strategy, shaping culture, and ensuring operational excellence across all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

As Head of HSE, you will:

• Lead and develop the company’s HSE strategy in alignment with evolving operational demands.
• Conduct and maintain comprehensive risk assessments across all departments.
• Investigate and report incidents, implementing robust corrective actions and continuous improvement measures.
• Oversee waste management systems and ensure adherence to best practices and legal requirements.
• Manage and maintain the documented HSE management system, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
• Act as a key liaison across departments, providing clear and pragmatic HSE guidance to teams at all levels.
• Review and manage the site’s environmental permit, ensuring ongoing compliance.

About You

We’re looking for a seasoned HSE leader with a strong mix of technical know-how and interpersonal skill. You will bring:

• A proven track record of leading HSE within a high-hazard or advanced manufacturing/R&D environment.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, and management.
• Demonstrated experience in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 internal auditing.
• Prior experience working on a COMAH site (Control of Major Accident Hazards).
• Strong grasp of HSE legislation, including CoSHH, REACH, Noise at Work, Permits to Work, and equipment safety regulations.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and Chartered Membership of IOSH (or working towards).
