Head of Procurement - Newly created role, Wetherby, W. Yorkshire/Hybrid - up to £75,000

Company

As a market leader, Augean serves sectors including renewable energy, construction, nuclear, processing, manufacturing, oil and gas, and industrial cleaning. Their ISO-accredited facilities operate across the UK, managing up to one million tonnes of waste annually, with the capacity to accept various contaminants. Supporting strategic growth, an exciting greenfield opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Manager to bring expertise and implement best practices.

Role

Reporting to the CFO and collaborating closely with Operations and Supply Chain, your primary goal will be to rationalize and consolidate the current supply chain, leveraging your proven success in procurement. We seek a robust, self-driven, and hands-on Procurement Manager with strong process, planning, and stakeholder management skills, including suppliers and customers. You will establish rigorous procurement processes, provide governance, and offer guidance and training to colleagues involved in procurement activities. Ensuring supplier compliance and performance will be key. You will develop a competitive commercial framework for the operation and maintenance of the company's treatment and disposal assets, including managing supply contracts and implementing procurement metrics such as supplier performance management. Regular travel to Augean and supplier sites will be required.

• Lead and manage all procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, tender management, and negotiations.
• Review and consolidate supply chain through national tender programs.
• Support the business in procurement activities and review supplier contracts for better value or alternatives.
• Develop procurement metrics and KPIs to monitor performance.
• Identify and mitigate contract risks, advising senior management accordingly.
• Establish policies, procedures, systems, and training to support procurement operations.
• Manage supplier performance measurement processes to facilitate continuous improvement.
• Adapt and evolve supplier relationships to maximize value and benefits.

Person

We seek an engaging, commercially astute procurement leader, ready to step into a strategic role with impact. You should possess excellent communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with a focus on value optimization and long-term relationships. Experience in contract procurement and risk management is essential. An understanding of engineering, plant, process/energy, or multi-site operations is beneficial but not mandatory.

• Graduate calibre, qualified MCIPS, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
• Expertise in procurement, contract management, and risk mitigation.
• Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills.
• Proven change management capability and experience in driving business improvements.
• Track record of delivering tender programs, negotiating contracts, and achieving cost savings.
• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
• Experience in continuous improvement environments.
• Financially literate and legally competent in complex contract negotiations.
• Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills at all levels.
