The School of Technical, Construction and Motor Vehicle at Carshalton College is seeking a Workshop Assistant to provide technician support in Construction, specializing in Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Bricklaying, and Multi-skills.
You will maintain workshops and equipment for Construction, and if required, Engineering. Responsibilities include managing stock levels and inventory, assisting in stock control, and coordinating deliveries of Construction equipment and consumables. You will support academic and technician staff in stores and workshops.
Ideal candidates will hold vocational or trade qualifications (at least Level 2 NVQ) in trades such as Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical installation, or related fields. You should have practical experience in one or more of these trades and in providing technician support in a Construction Department or similar environment.
You should be capable of setting up, monitoring, and maintaining administrative systems, with a strong understanding of Health and Safety and Welfare legislation. Effective communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and good organisational skills are essential.
The successful candidate will be eligible for salary increases based on the annual cost of living review, implemented in the new academic year.
