Job description

Are you an experienced Construction Supervisor with a background in fuel storage, Oil and Gas, or Petrochemical sites?

Our client, operating 4 strategically located terminals in the UK, is seeking a talented individual to join their team at their Essex site.

You will play a key role in audits, managing on-site contractors, preparing method statements, conducting risk assessments, and participating in HAZOP meetings.

Key aspects of the role

  • Ensure contractor compliance with all site safety rules, permit to work conditions, and project scope of works.
  • Ensure construction works are designed and built according to the Scope of Work, Project Execution Plan, and Contract.
  • Ensure adherence to the latest Approved For Construction (AFC) drawings, specifications, procedures, and site instructions.
  • Flag potential variations to the Navigator project manager and follow contract variation procedures.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow checking procedures.
  • Promote and maintain good working relationships between Navigator and contractors.
  • Ensure pre-commissioning and commissioning plans are in place at appropriate project stages.
  • Oversee pre/post commissioning snagging and ensure all snagging items are closed out before handover.
  • Ensure handover certification, including as-built drawings and handover pack, is completed prior to project sign-off.
  • Develop Method Statements and Risk Assessments with suppliers, contractors, and staff, in line with Safe System of Work (SSOW).
  • Ensure issued Safe Systems of Work permits are adhered to by all parties.
  • Involve site operations in all construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
  • Lead and guide contracted works to meet productivity, quality, and contract deadlines.
  • Audit contractor progress to ensure work aligns with plans, budgets, and RAMs requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the Construction Phase Plan under CDM regulations.

Experience required

  • Degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • NVQ level 3 or 4 in Construction Site Supervision.
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme certification.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience in construction or supervisory roles within process, chemical, or petrochemical/COMAH sites.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations, LOLER, and Working at Heights Regulations.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary brownfield projects, including tank farm construction, road loading infrastructure, pipework, and pipeline upgrades.
  • Additional certifications: COSHH, Fire Awareness, DSEAR, PUWER, Risk Assessment, Working at Heights, Manual Handling, Process Safety Management, HAZOP team leader, IOSH, Asbestos Awareness, AutoCAD P&ID, Piping system design & operation, Electrical Safety.
  • Strong communication skills and experience as Site Main Controller.
