Job Description

The Company & Role:

This Canadian-born business founded in 1978 has grown to become a global commercial real estate advisory firm employing 5000 people in 120 locations across 20 countries. This opportunity is for a Senior / Associate level Electrical engineer to join an exciting and successful Building Consultancy team, based in London. You will work on a variety of professional and project work for investors, lenders, occupiers, developers, and the public sector. Their broad client mix offers opportunities for travel around the UK and Europe with exposure to a diverse range of property types. The Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health (MEP) engineering team offers traditional MEP design and consultancy services alongside surveying and project management activities with sustainable solutions at the core of their work. Their expertise spans sectors including office, industrial, retail, education, government, healthcare, aviation, and residential.

As part of their succession plan, they seek an electrically biased building services engineer to support building surveyors in providing engineering consultancy services that complement the building surveying and project management activities. This role is ideal for someone with a background in MEP consulting or design and contracting looking to transition into a corporate real estate environment. Flexible working arrangements from home and office are available, but travel to sites for inspections is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Design:

  • Familiarity with RIBA Work plan stages, BSRIA BG6(2018), and deliverables.

  • Preparing feasibility study reports.
  • Assembling design specifications aligned with client requirements, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Monitoring scope of works, communicating changes.
  • Producing calculations, ensuring QA, technical reviews, and sign-offs.
  • Establishing design concepts, agreeing on project timelines.
  • Considering sustainability, net zero carbon, and energy performance in project assessments.
  • Coordinating with design teams and external parties on information flow.
  • Assisting in project budgeting and scope management.
  • Periodic reviews to identify risks.
  • Participating in pre-qualification and tender processes.
  • Reporting variances and overseeing site supervision and testing.
  • Managing surveys, appraisals, and documentation processes.
  • Understanding client needs and exceeding expectations.

Surveying, Dilapidations, and Advisory:

  • Conducting technical due diligence surveys and reports.
  • Familiarity with installations, trends, and regulations.
  • Clear communication skills for reports and client advice.
  • Considering sustainability and energy issues in assessments.
  • Knowledge of dilapidation assessments is advantageous.

Business and Team Functions:

  • Participation in staff meetings, project delivery, and resource management.
  • Timely completion of timesheets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

The candidate should be working towards or have achieved Chartered Engineer status, with relevant professional qualifications (CIBSE, IET, IMechE). A minimum of 5 years' industry experience, capable of working in a team, producing reports, designs, and conducting site inspections, is required. Familiarity with building services installations, technical due diligence, and excellent communication skills are essential. Attributes include client focus, leadership, teamwork, enthusiasm, and assertiveness to promote best practices and client care.
