To support patient experience and patient flow by undertaking all portering related duties, including primarily the transportation of patients to and from wards and departments, movement of goods (post, pharmacy, gas cylinders, specimens, bloods, furniture, stores, waste, linen), and other duties appropriate to the grade as assigned.

Main duties of the job

1. The safe and efficient transportation of patients, including personal belongings or required equipment, using trolleys, beds, or wheelchairs. Transferring patients and equipment across hospital wards and departments.
2. Transportation of goods, stores, furniture, notes, x-rays, and other items on request.
3. Transporting bloods and specimens to labs and from labs to wards and departments.
4. Transporting deceased patients to the mortuary and assisting with mortuary viewings when requested.
5. Exchanging and moving oxygen and medical gas cylinders across sites.
6. Using communication devices such as radios to receive jobs and communicate with team leaders or resource allocators.
7. Running the post room during opening hours, ensuring the safe acceptance, delivery, and transfer of post items internally and externally.
8. Dealing courteously and effectively with visitors, staff, and patients queries.
9. Reporting health and safety issues or incidents promptly.
