Using proven industry knowledge and technical insight, you will collaborate with internal Power & Renewables stakeholders to support evidence-based underwriting decisions, playing a key role in The Hartford's goal to underwrite human achievement and be the Insurer of the Transition.

The role reports directly to the Chief Risk Engineer, Marine & Energy International, with daily operational activities guided by Power & Renewables Underwriters.

You will work closely with Underwriting and Claims teams in London and regularly liaise with Risk Engineering specialists in the USA Risk Engineering Team.

Job Responsibilities & Competencies
  • Review and assess technical underwriting information from brokers and clients to inform Power & Renewables underwriters, primarily for Property Damage (Operational & Construction) and BI/DSU, and potentially for Liability and Cyber coverage.
  • Enhance existing tools for structured risk appraisal, including exposure quantification and risk quality assessment.
  • Support the Chief Risk Engineer in technology development, emerging risks analysis, and strategic development of the Risk Engineering function.
  • Assist Claims professionals during claims management and support internal Lessons Learned processes.
  • Utilize internal and third-party data to improve understanding of sector risks and causes of loss.
  • Participate in client facility visits, lead or assist in these visits, and contribute to market survey reports, providing risk management services when appropriate.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with Hartford Risk Engineering practitioners across business units.
  • Work with colleagues from actuaries, claims, data analysis, IT, risk management, and exposure management to integrate risk engineering insights into decision-making processes.
  • Engage in technical insurance market committees and associations.
  • Present at conferences and author articles on risk and insurance topics within Power & Renewables.
  • Support colleagues' professional development through knowledge sharing, guidance, and coaching.
  • Continue your own professional development through technical training, further education, and professional accreditation.
Qualifications & Capabilities

  • Understanding of general insurance principles.
  • Deep knowledge of causes of losses and incidents in the Power & Renewables industry.
  • Willingness to learn about technical, reliability, operational safety, and insurance issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all organizational levels.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Team player with the capability to work independently.
  • Networking skills.
  • Flexibility for overseas and UK client facility surveys.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
