Job description

Investment Management Group Fixed Income Service Team are evolving, and this role offers the opportunity to provide front-line operational support to the Fixed Income Investment Group, as well as to learn and support Investment Data Management.

This is a Specialist role within the IMG Fixed Income Service Team, working alongside six other Specialists to deliver critical daily operational support to Portfolio Managers and manage Investment Index Data. Operational responsibilities include maintaining the FI Investment Book of Records (IBOR), conducting start-of-day and end-of-day checks, monitoring liquidity, cashflows, trading activity, and providing insights to the Investments Team.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of fixed income markets, indexing strategies, and extensive experience with Aladdin. Practical experience in an Operations environment, including incident detection and response, project management, stakeholder management with appropriate escalations, and a comprehensive understanding of the investment lifecycle, is highly beneficial.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Build a strong professional relationship with Portfolio Managers and the Trading Team, demonstrating motivation and interpersonal skills.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end fixed income investment process, both conceptually and operationally, including the full investment lifecycle.
  • Support portfolio managers and traders by:
    • Responding promptly to investment process queries with insights and explanations.
    • Engaging with wider EIS teams, especially the Settlements Team, to coordinate actions and minimize failed trades.
  • Monitor portfolio movements to provide insights on liquidity, duration, and trading activity.
  • Assist in managing Investment and Index Data to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Stay informed about market and world events, assessing their potential impact on the investing process, and discussing these with colleagues.
  • Collaborate with Investment Risk and Operational Risk Teams to enhance controls and the control environment.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including automation, coding, technological suggestions, and collaborations.
  • Familiarize with the Vanguard Management System to promote continuous improvement, time management, effective communication, root cause analysis, and ongoing learning.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree and/or professional certifications (CFA, MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant business experience, preferably in Investment Operations, Data Management, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of financial concepts, with the ability to quickly grasp current and future policies, practices, trends, and information affecting Vanguard's business and Investment Operations.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, with the ability to lead initiatives to successful conclusions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with multiple responsibilities while maintaining client satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and investment management platforms (Aladdin, CRD, Access, etc.) is preferred.
  • Quick learner of complex concepts with the capacity to incorporate them into analysis and decision-making; sound judgment and problem-solving skills for complex issues.
