Job Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a Special Health Authority and an integral part of the NHS. In addition to providing blood components and donated organs to the NHS, NHSBT, in collaboration with the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Bristol conducts world-class research in the fields of transfusion medicine, organ donation, tissues and stem cells. The NHSBT Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) supports the translation of this laboratory research into clinical practice, conducting a range of different studies from large randomised controlled trials to small first in man studies. Our trials are funded from a variety of sources, including the NHSBT R&D Committee and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funding streams.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team as part of the Clinical Trials Unit. Your role is instrumental in achieving high quality data for the Clinical Research teams on a variety of Clinical Trials which then proceed to publication.

This is an ideal opportunity to contribute directly to clinical research projects and liaise with site based clinical research staff based mainly within the UK.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be required to:-

  • provide data management and administrative support for one or more trials being undertaken by the NHSBT Clinical Trials Unit (CTU)
  • enter trial data onto project-specific clinical trial databases
  • perform data clean-up by reviewing data discrepancies and warning flags generated by the database during data entry and issuing queries to study sites
  • receive and act on responses to data queries returned from study sites by updating the database
  • generate listings / reports from the trial database as requested
  • send reminders to study sites when data is outstanding
  • participate in data entry user-acceptance testing for newly designed databases


About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Awareness of ICH – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (GCP) and data protection legislation
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), or equivalent Systems
  • Experience of using IT systems to produce reports and correspondence which are timely, professional and accurate


Qualifications And Training

  • Possess a diploma or NVQ level 4 or equivalent relevant experience in clinical trials / health research environment
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continuous learning and development

  • A starting salary of £26,530 - £29,114 per annum in accordance with Agenda for Change (AfC).
  • A full time, 1 year fixed-term opportunity to join as a Band 4.
