What you’ll be responsible for

Providing leadership and management of projects to ensure completion within the statutory, regulatory, and financial targets of the Welsh Water Business Plan. Demonstrating value for money and ensuring adherence to Welsh Water's commercial and procurement processes by all contractors. Collaborating with operations and asset strategy teams to meet serviceability targets and improve asset management systems and processes for a successful next price review.

This Will Include
  • Line management responsibilities for Project Coordinators, including performance management, training, development, and coaching in line with HR policies.
  • Ensuring project delivery complies with latest CDM regulations, within agreed timelines and budgets, supporting Welsh Water’s investment programme.
  • Assessing project needs, defining scope, designing solutions, managing procurement, overseeing construction and delivery, and commissioning projects.
  • Monitoring project progress, managing slippage, and controlling contractor costs under NEC contracts.
  • Implementing Welsh Water’s contract, supply chain, and commercial systems for consistency.
  • Ensuring all projects meet Welsh Water Health and Safety standards, including CDM Regulations, and promoting best practices in construction techniques.
  • Implementing sustainable and innovative solutions to meet efficiency and carbon reduction targets.
  • Fulfilling the role of Project Manager under NEC.
  • Delivering special projects involving above and below ground assets within a defined area.
  • Scoping investment needs, identifying solutions, managing design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Collaborating with operational and design teams, partners, and suppliers to address asset performance issues.
  • Providing project management expertise and supporting operational colleagues and partners.
  • Protecting Welsh Water’s interests, managing project risks, and conducting peer reviews and issue resolution.
  • Completing project handover documentation, post-project reviews, and root cause analysis for continuous improvement.
Who you’ll work with

Internal: Operations, Asset Strategy, Finance, Estates, Streetworks, Procurement, Health & Safety, Commercial teams, operational staff, design team, management levels within Welsh Water.

External: Regulators (NRW/Ofwat/DWI/CCW), local authorities, water sector companies.

Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health & Safety.
Experience
  • Extensive project management experience, leading large teams or delivering high-value capital solutions.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Customer-focused attitude.
  • Knowledge of IMS processes for capital maintenance projects.
  • Project delivery skills, commercial awareness, decision-making, analytical skills, communication, teamwork, and ability to meet deadlines.
