Then this Band 7 Clinical Specialist Team Leader role could be for you!

The post holder will lead the Therapy team across the service alongside the Band 7 Physiotherapist, providing clinical supervision and training whilst working as part of the wider MDT.

The post holder will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering, evaluating and managing high-quality therapy services to patients within the Surgical services. These include but are not limited to:

  • Head and Neck
  • Vascular
  • Amputees
  • Gastro
  • Renal

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a highly specialist, high standard therapy service, assessing and advising on patients care & treatment, as an autonomous practitioner within the defined patient group.
  • Lead the Therapy staff across the service area providing clinical supervision and training, liaising with other appropriate Therapy leads to ensure an integrated service is provided for the service area
  • Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training and annual appraisal.
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy service. Take a lead for information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.
  • Provide a source of expert clinical opinion on Surgical patients for other health professionals, both internal and external to the Trust.
  • To participate in 7-day working patterns, including Bank Holidays.

Job description

  • Interpret & analyse clinical & non clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis & prognosis in a wide range of highly complex conditions to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess & develop comprehensive rehabilitation plans.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients including those with complex presentation, investigate & analyse skills & formulate individualised management & treatment plans to develop specialised programmes of care.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals & gain informed consent to work within the legal framework for patients who lack capacity. Accept clinical responsibility for own caseload & organise this effectively. Oversee/supervise junior staff caseloads, ensuring prioritisation according to acuity. Provide highly specialist clinical services contributing to diagnosis, care, and treatment.
  • Maintain a safe environment adhering to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene & infection control.
  • Deliver training to rotational staff to ensure competence.
  • Participate in policy development within the Therapy Department & other specialties.
  • Work with Consultants and other agencies for patient referrals and service development within professional guidelines.
  • Provide advice, teaching, & instruction to relatives, carers & other professionals to promote understanding and consistent patient care.
  • Manage clinical events requiring high physical, psychological, and cognitive effort based on patient dependency & clinical need.
