An established healthcare provider in Pembrokeshire is seeking a dedicated professional for their Osteoporosis Service. Job summary
The Pembrokeshire Osteoporosis Service provides specialist bone health management to the population of Pembrokeshire, ranging from late teenage years to the very elderly. We routinely use virtual consultations and provide face-to-face assessments if required. Our patient-centred practice aims to help patients make informed decisions. The post holder will manage their own caseload, including reviewing new and existing patients and attending weekly MDT meetings.
Suitable for ST4 level or above, or a General Practitioner wishing to sub-specialise in Osteoporosis, working 2 days (4 sessions) as part of their practice. This is initially a 24-month appointment, with potential for progression to a Specialty doctor/Specialist post for the right candidate. There is an option to discuss Medical acute on-calls if required. We are open to a hybrid working model involving site-based work at least one day per week combined with remote working, as agreed with the successful applicant, responsible Consultant, and Service Manager.
The post offers opportunities to participate in audit meetings, MDTs, postgraduate teaching sessions, and revalidation through MARS.
Main duties of the job
The applicant will work closely with the existing team, managing their own caseload, reviewing patients, and participating in weekly MDT meetings. The service is developing rapidly, including a Health Board-wide Fracture Liaison Service. We offer a full range of bone health treatments, including non-oral anti-resorptives and anabolic therapies. The role provides a wide range of opportunities for clinical development in osteoporosis and related conditions such as Paget's disease and steroid-related bone loss. Additional development areas include communication skills, virtual outpatient work, audit, quality improvement projects, and educational opportunities. The post will also support settling into the Pembrokeshire area and developing towards a Consultant role with specialist registration, with Portfolio Pathway support.
