Senior Principal Designer/CDM Advisor
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Designer/CDM Advisor to provide technical support and guidance to staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality health & safety consultancy services following best practices.
As Principal Designer/CDM Advisor, you will identify and analyze risks, ensuring the project delivery team mitigates these risks as far as reasonably practicable, and manages residual risks where necessary.
The role requires adherence to key deliverables to ensure effective management and delivery of services, in compliance with the current Management of Health & Safety at Work regulations and related legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out statutory duties of the Principal Designer and non-statutory roles of Advisor to the Principal Designer and CDM Adviser to the Client as per CDM 2015 regulations.
- Oversee and ensure effective management systems are in place for project and consultancy delivery.
- Support clients and conduct site inspections of proposed development sites, including report writing.
- Advise on prevention principles arising from proposed designs at each RIBA stage and provide feedback to designers and clients on issues to be managed upon scheme handover.
- Provide support to Directors and liaise with legal advisers if required.
- Review and comment on designs regarding health & safety, ensuring relevant information is sourced for the health & safety file and compliance.
- Assist clients, designers, and principal contractors in understanding statutory duties and ensuring design process compliance with CDM 2015 at all RIBA stages.
- Perform administrative tasks following office procedures.
- Create guidance notes and assist with health and safety audits, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Support or carry out health & safety site surveys and ensure reports are issued per regulations.
- Manage own projects and participate in project financial management.
- Assist in answering PQQs, bids, audits, and supporting marketing initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of CDM consultancy services to support growth.
- Support staff safety inductions and training where appropriate.
- Maintain progress charts, fee forecasts, and data filing systems.
- Guide and support junior team members.
Experience & Attributes:
- Qualified at Technician level or working towards Chartered status, with relevant health & safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Construction/General Certificate).
- Significant experience in construction and PD/CDMA roles aligned with CDM regulations.
- Demonstrable experience across relevant construction sectors.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and MS Office skills.
- Ability to meet and exceed fee targets.
- Proven ability to build positive client relationships and represent the company professionally.
- Confident, professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Team player capable of working independently.
