Job Description:

About the Role

The newly created role of Reader in Construction Management will provide academic leadership in teaching and curriculum development within the Department of Engineering. The role supports the University's strategic objective to deliver industry-relevant, professionally accredited programmes that meet skills needs in the construction and built environment sectors.

The post-holder will play a key role in enhancing the quality and innovation of teaching in construction management, with a focus on areas such as project delivery, digital construction, and sustainability. They will contribute to developing inclusive, practice-informed pedagogy and ensure strong links between curriculum content and industry standards.

This role will support the delivery and continuous improvement of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Construction Management, aiming for high student satisfaction, graduate employability, and professional relevance.

Key Responsibilities (aligned with the Education Pedagogy and Citizenship route):

  1. Map out undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to be introduced within the Department of Engineering over the next three to five years, including leading the development and launch of an MSc in Construction Management.
  2. Enhance student experience and outcomes through your practice, leadership in educational initiatives, and commitment to high-quality scholarship.
  3. Provide academic leadership informally and in formal roles at departmental, faculty, and institutional levels, promoting good practice across the University.
  4. Lead practice-based initiatives and innovations with internal colleagues and external partners, including internationally, to improve educational outcomes and influence higher education policy or practice.
  5. Secure external funding as Principal or Co-Investigator for scholarship and knowledge exchange activities that influence higher education.
  6. Contribute to activities such as recruitment, admissions, widening participation, outreach, and public engagement.

  • Experience in developing and delivering programmes in Construction Management.
  • Strong leadership skills in managing projects and motivating or developing team members.
  • Contributions to external roles that support discipline vitality, influence strategy or policy, and enhance the University's standing.
  • Innovative, research-informed teaching and assessment practices, with proven ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external stakeholders, such as non-academic partners, businesses, funding bodies, and regulatory agencies.
