Job description

About the role

Applications are invited for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associatein tropical seagrass systems. The successful candidate will work with Dr Holly East as a part of the project ‘Seagrass bright spots and their potential to mitigate climate change’. The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust, and aims to understand the carbon storage capacity of seagrass meadows in the Maldives Archipelago.

Project objectives are: (i) to determinecontemporary and temporal changes in seagrass sediment carbon stocks and associated carbon dioxide emissions (offsets or increases); and (ii) to analyse the relationships between shifts in seagrass areal extent and nutrient loading.

The candidate will be expected to disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed publications and at international conferences.

The role is fixed-term for 11.5 months.

About the team

This Research Project is being delivered within the Department of Geography and Environmental Science within the Faculty of Engineering & Environment at Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK.The successful candidate will work with Dr. Richard Unsworth (co-Investigator), Swansea University, as well as a broader team of international collaborators.

About you

Applicants should hold aPhD degree (or close to completion) in Geosciences, Physical Geography, Marine Biology, Ecology, Marine Science, or another related discipline.
