Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, dedicated, and expanding team of professionals as a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist in our busy Blood Sciences laboratory at Weston General Hospital.

This is an exciting time to be joining the team as we progress with implementing brand new equipment as part of our new managed service contract.

You will be a proactive member of the Blood Sciences Team, excellent communication skills are essential as is the ability to work within a team processing a high workload of specimens. You should have great multi-tasking ability, have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail and be able to appropriately prioritise urgent work.

You must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. The department has a specialist portfolio training programme in place and has a proven track record of success. The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in the processes, training and development of staff within the department.

The department operates a Blood Sciences 24/7 shift system covering day shifts, late shifts, night shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays which the successful applicant must participate in as required.

The post holder will be part of a team providing a Blood Sciences service to the Trust. Blood Sciences consists of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion. The team comprises Medical Laboratory Assistants, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, Biomedical Scientists, Clerical staff and Medical staff.

The post holder will be expected to understand the need for analytical quality and clinical urgency, and take appropriate action when finding abnormal pathology results in order to maintain the highest standards of patient care.

The post holder will be expected to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must have UK based laboratory experience.
