We are seeking
An accomplished and forward-thinking Data Manager/IT Support Team Leader to join the Department of Oncology. This is a pivotal role that combines leadership of a small IT support team with responsibility for managing, securing, and optimising our institutional and research data systems.
You will work closely with academic, research, and administrative stakeholders to design and implement data systems that meet the evolving needs of the Department. Your leadership will drive best practices in data governance, reporting, and infrastructure use—contributing to more effective, data-informed decision-making across the organisation.
Alongside this, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality IT support services, ensuring timely, expert assistance and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and excellent customer service. You will also play an active role in the wider Medical Sciences Division IT community, spending one day per week at the MSD IT office to participate in collaborative projects and service enhancements.
You will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, combined with substantial hands-on expertise in data management and IT systems within a complex environment. You will bring a deep understanding of data governance principles, along with a proven ability to design and maintain systems for the storage, organisation, and sharing of research data.
Your strong technical skills will include proficiency with command-line interfaces and a confident approach to supporting high-performance and cloud computing environments. You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, offering practical support and advice to colleagues across academic and professional services teams.
You will be a confident communicator with excellent documentation and organisational skills, capable of managing competing priorities to deliver work to a high standard. As a team leader, you will demonstrate a supportive and inclusive leadership style, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 3 years, offering the opportunity to contribute to strategic IT development in one of Oxford’s leading medical research departments.
