Your Impact:

As a Senior Software Engineer in our Leicester office, you will be a technical leader, driving the design and development of major features and systems for our cloud-based SaaS platform. You will architect complex solutions, mentor and coach other engineers, and collaborate with product leadership to shape our technical roadmap. This role offers a significant opportunity to influence the direction of our technology and the growth of our engineering team.

We're looking for a passionate and detail-oriented software engineer with a strong track record of delivering high-quality, production-ready software. The ideal candidate is experienced across the full software development lifecycle and demonstrates a commitment to engineering excellence and continuous improvement. You'll join a collaborative and cross-functional Scrum team comprising full stack engineers, quality engineers, UI/UX designers, and product managers. You'll also work closely with international stakeholders, contributing to global projects and helping drive engineering best practices across teams. This role requires strong experience in both backend and frontend development, with a particular emphasis on PHP and the Laravel framework.

Familiarity with modern frontend technologies such as React, Vue.js, or AngularJS is also highly valued. A willingness to mentor others, share knowledge, and contribute to a culture of learning and quality is essential. This is a hybrid role based in our Leicester city centre office. Team members are expected to be on-site four days per week, with one flexible work-from-home day pre-agreed with your line manager. Adjustments can be made in advance where needed. You'll report to the Software Engineering Team Lead, working alongside peers within a high-performing agile team committed to continuous delivery and technical excellence.

What you'll do:

1. Lead the design and development of major features and systems for cloud-based SaaS applications.
2. Architect and implement complex, scalable, and highly available solutions.
3. Drive technical decisions and provide technical leadership across multiple teams.
4. Mentor and coach other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
5. Collaborate with product management and other stakeholders to define product roadmaps and technical strategy.
6. Identify and mitigate technical risks and dependencies.
7. Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and scalability challenges.
8. Evangelize best practices and contribute to the development of engineering standards.
9. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and architectural patterns.
10. Lead incident response and resolution for critical production issues.
11. Demonstrate expert proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks (frontend and backend). Have a deep understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns.
12. Design and build large-scale, distributed systems with proven experience.
13. Extensive experience with backend languages such as PHP and other web-based object-oriented languages, using frameworks like Laravel (preferred) and Drupal. Proficient in front-end technologies including AngularJS, React, and Vue.js.
14. Strong experience with DevOps practices and tools.
15. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
16. Proven ability to mentor and guide other engineers.
17. Experience with performance tuning, security hardening, and system monitoring.
18. Experience leading and influencing technical direction within a team or organization.
