Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated general practitioner for 6 sessions to join our friendly and excellent team. We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified GPs.

Main duties of the job

Undertaking the usual duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About Us

Our team comprises 4 GP partners, 3 salaried GPs, various registrars, 1 ANP, a skilled nursing team, and administrative support. We operate a triage appointment system and serve over 10,300 patients across two sites: The Surgery in Mayfield, Buckden, and Little Paxton, St. Neots, Cambridgeshire.

We are a training practice rated outstanding by CQC, members of the A1 Network PCN, and run community clinics for dermatology, lymphoedema, and vasectomy.

Job Description

Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Patient consultations (in person, video, telephone, home visits)
  • Making autonomous decisions regarding patient issues
  • Assessing healthcare needs of undifferentiated problems
  • Screening for risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Managing long-term conditions and developing care plans
  • Referring patients to specialists as appropriate
  • Attending emergencies in the practice
  • Prescribing medications following guidelines
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions and lab results
  • Completing reports and examinations
  • Recording accurate clinical notes
  • Supporting other clinicians and participating in audits
  • Using IT systems like EMIS Web
  • Balancing patient care with effective time management
  • Providing respectful, empathetic patient care
  • Contributing to team safety and effectiveness
  • Managing absences with proper handovers and documentation
  • Following practice policies and protocols
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and governance

Statutory and Practice Requirements

  • Compliance with policies on data protection, confidentiality, health & safety, and clinical guidelines
  • Adherence to practice protocols on complaints, infection control, referrals, etc.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Following health & safety policies and completing relevant training
  • Supporting equality, diversity, and inclusivity
  • Reporting clinical governance issues and significant events
  • Keeping Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis certifications current

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Medical degree

  • Full GMC Registration

  • Eligibility to practice independently in the UK
  • Full UK driving license

Additional Requirements

  • Subject to DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
  • Current UK professional registration
