Job Summary

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will undertake duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and managing queries, paperwork, and correspondence promptly.
  • Make autonomous, professional decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare staff.
  • Assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed issues.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early illness signs.
  • Develop care plans in collaboration with patients, following current disease management protocols.
  • Provide counseling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients from the caseload and refer to other providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear consultation notes to standard.
  • Prepare and issue computer-generated prescriptions, avoiding handwritten ones.
  • Prescribe according to the practice formulary or generically when appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities

Be aware of and comply with all relevant practice policies, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, and health & safety. Commit to lifelong learning, contribute to audits, and support the development of electronic patient records and coding. Attend training sessions as organized.
