About the role (External)

What will you be doing?

This role provides architectural leadership and technical assurance for the specification, design, build, and deployment of telecoms Corporate Services into the production platform, connecting various telecoms areas such as Corporate (Office/locations - LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi), Voice, Data Centre, Stations, etc.

The platform connects staff to systems and services to facilitate their work, including connection technologies like Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN within locations, and interfaces to Data Centres and Cloud services.

The role leads as a technical design authority, consultancy, and assurance on related technologies for Telecoms Operations. It develops the technical service strategy for Corporate Services to support business strategies.

The role champions new technology, services, and projects, ensuring current service levels are maintained and improved. It drives innovation and a lifecycle approach, considering business improvements, integration issues, and architecture component availability through technology, product, and platform roadmaps.

• Identify, innovate, and drive the technical roadmap for Corporate Services to support Telecoms Operations.
• Support the New Technology Introduction (NTI) process by reviewing new or changed controlled telecoms products/technologies for Network Rail Product Acceptance.
• Provide and maintain design principles & architecture guidance for the Corporate Services platform and offerings.
• Support new service development by approving and assuring design conformance with architecture principles.
• Maintain the overall Platform Architecture and recommend improvements for performance and resilience.
• Offer technical architecture consultancy to design teams, projects, and customers.
• Identify opportunities for technical improvements that add value through infrastructure development aligned with business needs.
• Collaborate with suppliers to understand lifecycle impacts of existing and new technologies, supporting a conformant technical roadmap.
• Stay updated on future product visions, translating capabilities into platform modifications, and leading strategy and innovation.

• Substantial experience in Corporate/Network Services engineering and operations within Telecoms, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, IP, MPLS, ACI, SD-WAN, SD-Access, BGP, Cloud, Internet, DNS, DHCP, Security, Mobile, QoS.
• Architectural knowledge of Corporate Service platforms and awareness of security architectures supporting these services.
• Experience delivering complex networks & services.
• Degree or equivalent in a technical subject, with relevant experience.
• Knowledge of network design and operation supporting Rail or Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
• Familiarity with corporate management, monitoring systems, and planning tools.
• Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2).
• Certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, or eTOM.
• Experience with Identity Services Engine (ISE), Wireless Controllers (WLC), Digital Network Architecture Centre (DNAC).
