Job description

Role: Senior Reactor Physicist

Location: Bristol / Gloucester / Dorchester (possibly elsewhere) - hybrid role with good opportunities for working from home

Salary: Up to c£65k + excellent benefits package

Start: June 2025 onwards

The nuclear industry is evolving from traditional reactor designs to new small modular reactors (SMRs) and advanced modular reactors (AMRs), featuring improved safety and lower costs. These innovations present exciting modelling challenges, requiring novel mathematics, physics, engineering, and software techniques.

Our client, a global leader in advanced engineering and innovative technology solutions, is a strategic partner in the UK’s nuclear new build program and a leader in reactor technology, conceptual design, and engineering for new nuclear technologies. They seek enthusiastic and innovative physicists (Reactor Physicists) to join various technical teams analyzing a broad range of reactor designs.

This role offers excellent opportunities for skill development in physics applied to nuclear engineering, with potential to lead technical projects and collaborations.

Locations include Bristol, Gloucester, and Dorchester, with significant hybrid working options.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop mathematical and physical theories underpinning reactor physics
  2. Perform complex reactor physics plant analysis
  3. Deliver technical training to specialized audiences
  4. Collaborate on developing and refining models and simulations
  5. Present findings at technical meetings and conferences
  6. Engage with the international academic research community
  7. Generate new business through interactions with international clients
Qualifications:
  1. Undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field with strong mathematical components
  2. Solid background in mathematical and physical theory and implementation
  3. Programming skills in Fortran, Python, Java, or similar
  4. Innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities
  5. Self-motivated with a passion for nuclear physics
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams
