Location: Widnes WA8 7QF

Salary: A GBP 31,067 - A GBP 33,366 per annum

The Role

They are looking for both Adult Paralegal and Children's Paralegal.

The Legal team at the Borough Council plays a vital role in supporting the authority by delivering high-quality, timely, and business-focused legal and procedural advice. They seek a Paralegal to manage cases, support legal drafting, liaise with stakeholders, prepare court documents, and ensure compliance with legal procedures, all while contributing to a collaborative team environment. The team is committed to delivering advice cost-effectively and efficiently, ensuring value for the Council while meeting the complex and evolving needs of the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage your own caseload and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure cases are handled cohesively.
  • Prepare letters, emails, reports, and other documents to a high standard.
  • Conduct legal research to support case handling and report preparation.
  • Draft and revise legal documents for review by Lawyers, ensuring proper filing.
  • Redact and prepare court bundles and documentation.
  • Handle enquiries from chambers, courts, third-party organisations, and representatives.
  • Track deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with workflow administration and management.
  • Appear in court for routine and non-routine matters as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity, and professionalism in all activities.
  • Create and maintain document filing using the Council's Case Management system.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations and guidelines, adhering to the Legal Services practices.
  • Build effective working relationships within the team and across the organisation.
  • Support team members and provide on-the-job training.
  • Undertake core learning and development programs as required.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the role as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A law degree, CILEX, or equivalent, or significant casework experience.
  • At least 1+ year of transactional casework experience in Adult law.
  • At least 1+ year of transactional casework experience in Child Care law.
  • Excellent communication skills with a confident manner handling enquiries.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive, collaborative problem-solving approach.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and preferably Excel.
  • Ability to operate document and case management software.

As this role involves regular travel across the borough and sometimes further afield, a driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential requirements.
