What Is the Opportunity?

Business Insurance helps companies in the UK and Ireland identify, prepare for, and mitigate risks by offering a broad array of industry-specific, combined property, casualty, and motor insurance solutions. This includes SME solutions traded directly, Commercial Accounts via brokers, and Corporate Solutions for FTSE 350 Risk Managed companies.

Are you a meticulous Underwriter looking to specialize in a varied and interesting portfolio? We are seeking an Underwriter to join our Public Sector team, working on renewals and new business tenders for public sector policies across the UK. You’ll primarily underwrite property policies, also casualty and motor lines, managing the full policy lifecycle while building strong internal and external relationships.

Travelers Europe offers flexibility for hybrid work arrangements—three days in the office and two days at home, subject to policy changes.

What Will You Do?

1. Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business, including routine to moderately complex accounts across various products.
2. Underwrite and negotiate moderate risks to minimize risk and maximize profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs).
3. Proactively manage your portfolio, ensuring KPIs are met, and target new business and retention opportunities.
4. Identify risk characteristics and collaborate with your manager or team to take corrective actions.
5. Identify opportunities to write additional lines of business, leveraging product knowledge and risk appetite.
6. Utilize technology platforms efficiently for quoting and binding risks.
7. Support underwriting reviews and manage action points for individual policies or portfolios.
8. Maintain relationships with internal partners and brokers to identify cross-selling opportunities.
9. Travel to meetings as needed to foster broker relationships.
10. Develop pipeline plans and support renewal efforts to retain business and achieve sales goals.
11. Train and mentor less experienced underwriters.
12. Collaborate with team members and perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• A Levels or equivalent qualification
• Knowledge of products, regulatory environment, and local insurance market
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for underwriting and risk assessment
• Effective communication and negotiation skills with brokers
• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and leverage differences for business success
• Ability to analyze industry and competitor insights
• Experience participating in projects related to product or regulatory changes
