Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - External Supply Chain

Working Pattern: 37 hours/days

Location: Derby Raynesway

Rolls-Royce has a unique opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer - External Supply Chain within our Future Programmes, Electrical Controls & Instrumentation business unit in the Submarines Business based in Derby.

Our submarines business supports the Royal Navy and is the technical authority to the UK Ministry of Defence for naval reactor plants. We are expanding our nuclear sector capabilities, and this role offers a chance to be part of a growing team of experts in engineering, manufacturing, project management, and procurement.

Role Overview: As an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer - External Supply Chain, you will oversee Manufacturing Engineering activities in the External Supply Chain, ensuring continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and lead time requirements (SQCD). You will also ensure product integrity by aligning manufacturing methods with design intent through collaboration with Design Engineering.

Work Arrangements: Hybrid working allows flexibility between office, home, or remote locations, with an expectation of about three days per week in the workplace for collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. HSE: Raise concerns related to Health, Safety & Environmental standards in the supply chain.
  2. Product Safety: Ensure manufacturing processes achieve and sustain design intent, with rigorous investigation and resolution of safety issues.
  3. Quality: Promote zero defects culture, work with suppliers to build quality into processes, and ensure compliance with policies and standards.
  4. Technical Authority: Apply manufacturing process controls, support pre-contract activities, and lead technical reviews with customers and suppliers.
  5. Planning & Programme Management: Manage schedules, resources, costs, and communicate status to stakeholders, resolving issues to meet project timelines.
  6. Capability & Continuous Improvement: Develop and improve manufacturing processes and digital systems, using data to demonstrate and enhance capability.
  7. Deploy Capability: Review technical packages, resolve technical issues, and ensure safety, quality, cost, and lead-time requirements are met.
Candidate Requirements:
  • HNC or degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments, with knowledge of process improvement tools.
  • Familiarity with IPC 610/620 standards (desirable), manufacturing processes, electrical and mechanical drawings, and product design.
  • Experience working with external suppliers, including capability assessments.
  • Professional manner and ability to work with supply chain stakeholders.
