This position will be based in our EnerSys Advanced Systems (EAS) Space line of business, which delivers international space missions for satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. We work with space agencies like NASA and ESA, and support missions including Earth observation, IoT satellite constellations, and navigation systems. This role offers the opportunity to impact people globally.

Job Purpose

Experienced test technician responsible for the safe, detailed testing of electrically live space flight hardware in mission-representative conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Ensure health and safety of all personnel, including risk assessments, safety protocols, and PPE adherence.
  2. Maintain, control, set up, and operate test equipment for test campaigns.
  3. Define, write, review, and complete all test documentation accurately and timely.
  4. Develop and review programs for battery tester equipment.
  5. Understand safe setup, operation, and maintenance of thermal vacuum chambers.
  6. Perform electrical and physical testing of battery units using tools like DMMs and oscilloscopes.
  7. Support development testing of electronic and mechanical sub-systems.
  8. Manage, calibrate, and define processes for test equipment.
  9. Perform mechanical testing such as vibration, shock, and magnetic moment testing in external test houses.
Additional Duties
  1. Conduct test campaigns as assigned.
  2. Apply relevant standards and process guidelines.
  3. Inspect and verify batteries, test harnesses, and breakout boxes.
  4. Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  5. Possess knowledge of HV battery systems, safety, thermal runaway, and degradation mechanisms.
  6. Build, test, and inspect wiring and looms.
  7. Utilize battery test methodologies and perform data analysis using MATLAB and LabVIEW.
Qualifications
  • HNC level in an engineering subject with a hands-on engineering approach.
  • 2-5 years relevant testing experience.
  • Valid UK driving license.
Knowledge / Experience
  • Strong background in testing operations and hardware safety.
  • Knowledge of electrical test techniques and battery test equipment.
  • Attention to detail, logical approach, and adherence to testing protocols.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and analyze test data.
  • Proficiency in MS Office/Office 365.
